At first I was conflicted about Hillary being mentioned as a possible VP candidate in 2012. But having considered it from different angles I have to admit to being rather intrigued about the possibility of having a “grown up” in charge once again.
Since President Indifferent has essentially “checked out” having her as close to the decision making apparatus has many upsides attached. This is a woman who has fought the good fight for years on behalf of women and children, has a solid record of achievement to stand on, and offers a balance of strength in this otherwise “pussy whipped” administration fearful of opposing the Right Wing lunacy rolling our way.
It may be nothing more than a ploy, a testing of the waters, or just sound political judgment to bring in the “A team” for once but I am convinced that it does have an appeal.
And it has nothing to do with any “fear” from a possible Palin run since Hillary would manage to wipe the floor in any debate with Governor Half Term which would nullify any belief that she was anywhere near qualified to govern from the moment she opened her mouth against this knowledgeable wonk.
Luring the female voter would be my guess but it would go a long way to assure the rest of us that the current WH occupant, who has essentially little interest in leading, would have the right person at his side to make it bearable.
The irony is that the suggestion to have a Clinton/Obama ticket in 2008 that would give him time to “grow” into the role with her as his mentor was rejected. Instead we got a guy who had yet to remove the “training wheels” as she continued to make her mark as the SOS.
I don’t much care if Obama does need her, it is the country that would benefit. We need her. It is possible that she could restore my faith and that of the party if this idea takes wing.
I think if Hillary was on the ticket with Obama at the helm, I would simply stay home and not vote. I cannot vote for Obama. Knowing what a sham he is makes my vote itself a sham if cast in his direction. I’d not vote out of respect for what I thought voting used to mean.
The thing is that we have no idea who will be running in 2012 but my best guess at this point in time depends largely on what happens in November.
If enough of those Tea Party candidates gain a significant foothold it may very well be that the GOP runs a candidate along the lines of Palin in opposition since they may be “reading the tea leaves” that this is what and where the country resides and supports.
She has come out and openly supported some of the most extreme elements which may very well mean that she has decided to run with their support at her back. To think for a minute that she does not embrace their view wholeheartedly would be to misread her intentions.
Being left with only the choice between extremism and the failure of the Dem Party to lead, the choices will be far worse than in 2008 when the choice was between two mediocre candidates who managed to survive and manipulate the primaries.
I’m not sure I could vote for Obama even with Clinton on the ticket.
I agree with you and Jay. For me it’s all or nothing. Even with Hillary at the top of the ticket, the damage this crew has done may be irreparable. But I simply will not vote for Hillary riding shotgun, while the empty suit is behind the wheel. Or playing golf. The O would still be in charge and “his” advisors would still be making bone-headed decisions. Hillary would end up being window-dressing, a cheap ploy to shore up the women’s vote and consolidate Latino support, which has been crumbling because of the miserable employment numbers.
It would break my heart but I could not, would not vote for this arrangement. It’s a bad, bad idea. I hope it remains a rumor. Btw, Woodward who presumably got this story brewing again, said on Larry King that Obama does not give Clinton’s positions that much credence in conference. Now, who knows how accurate Woodward is or whether he’s reporting a straight scoop [I have my misgivings]. But if what he says is true then there’s certainly no reason to believe that Clinton’s input would have much clout. And we will have been played, again.
Bad idea!
I really believe Hillary could bring back the big coalition party- That being said, if she runs with the fraud- I vote against. I didn’t like him in the primaries, I don’t like him now. Too many crazy, America hating associates- Wright and Ayers? Small fry compared to the Khalidis and Al-Sammarre types.
And why the hell should she take second place to him? Haven’t we had enough- a lifetimes worth- of seeing the most talented qualified person having to stand behind a man? Simply because he has a penis?
No Obama for me- no matter who is on the ticket.
That choice in 2012 may just come down to who openly advocates stripping us of our rights as opposed to those unwilling to stand up and defend them.
What a choice!
First of all, Joe Biden would be a HORRIBLE Secretary of State. Oh my goodness! The guy suffers from terminal foot-in-mouth disease, and how drunk would he get at those State dinners?! He’d probably pull a Bush I and throw up in someone’s lap. That’s a terrible, terrible idea.
Second of all, no VP for Hillary. I don’t think she would accept it anyway. SOS is a good job for her because she is completely divorced from Obama’s domestic policies, with which she disagrees in almost every respect. As VP, she’d have the worst of both worlds: she’d be blamed for Obama’s bad decisions, while having little to no influence over the decision-making process.
Nope, let’s hope that after the November elections, the wiser heads in the Party (if there are any left) give Obama a good ol’ Nixonian talking-to. Time to step down, for the good of the country and the Party. He had his chance and he blew it. The real winner of the 2008 primaries now needs to step in and show these Democratic wimps and sellouts how it’s done.
I could vote for an Obama/Clinton ticket, only if O promised to resign or die, one week after the election. Without that promise, there is no way she should save his sorry a..s.
Let him sink or swim on his own.

None of the many people who’ve floated these ‘Hilary as VP’ notions has yet explained the value-add of keeping BO.
Clearly designed to test the waters, &/or to ‘rally the base.’ But I thought they didn’t need us any more.
Maybe we should all go to Facebook like they did with Betty White and petition her to take on Obama.
It worked for Betty. She can hardly keep up with the offers rolling in. SNL grabbed her and their ratings went through the roof.
I agree! Check it out, there’s already one page:

O/T Peggy Sue, did you hear about Joe Miller’s wife receiving unemployment benefits?
“After leaving my office Kathleen did receive unemployment benefits for a short period of time,” Miller acknowledged. Unemployment benefits are typically only given to workers who are fired without cause or laid off.
Heh.
Yes, PJ. I read that and laughed. The Libertarian Extraordinaire for whom everything is unConstitutional [including unemployment benefits], except when it applies to his family. Oops!
You can’t make this stuff up.
Ha! Exactly.
There was also the TP candidate (forget his name — Tennessee maybe?) who had to admit he’s been receiving gov’t. farm subsidies for decades.
Of course, now that the TP has fused with the radical religious right, bilking the govt. is all OK under GOD as “bleeding the Beast.”
And ever so, amen.
