ROMENY WINS BY 8….VOTES

ROMENY WINS BY 8….VOTES

random thoughts as the night wore on…

- Watching this silly race unfold tonight I’m wondering again: Why does anyone care about Iowa? Who are these people? Is there a non white person in the entire state of Iowa? I’ve not seen so many Caucasians in a single room since the casting call for Lord of the Rings extras.

- Think about this…What if Romney picks Rand Paul as VEEP?

- Perry and Gingrich’s money will be a factor going forward.

- I wonder how much damage Ron Paul will do to the GOP before he’s defeated?

- Numbers are coming in. Santorum, Paul, and Romney are up early.

Neither Ron Paul or Rick Santorum can win the GE. Ron Paul is a whackadoodle who is playing right field so deep you can’t see him from the stands. Rick Santorum is a far-right religious zealnut whose anti-gay, anti-choice, anti-social program rhetoric won’t make it out of the South (not to mention is gaffes concerning peoples of color). After waking up to the fact that most Americans still remember WHO & What Newt Gingrich really is, what he really did and that he is incapable of winning a GE. you’d think the GOP’ers could see the same outcome for Santorum & Paul. But apparently, NOT. These folks are definitely slow learners. Will they understand the GE shortcomings of Paul and Santorum in time to reign in the flock and elect Romney? Who knows? If there’s any political party more screwed up, divided, dysfunctional, in disarray, self-destructive, than the Democratic Party, it is the Republican Party. May they all rest in pieces.

all true. Romney wins tonight regardless unless he somehow sinks to third but even then Perry and Gingrich are going to pummel each other in south carolina. Santorum is 2 newscycles away from being buried. Ron Paul will have his best year ever – which amounts to 15% of the over all GOP vote.

    • ANonOMouse says:

“Perry and Gingrich are going to pummel each other in south carolina.”

Perry’s is saying this morning that he’s going home to TX to “reassess his campaign”. Gingrich is still leading in SC poll from 1/3/12, it will be interesting to see if he can hold that lead after last nights whipping. Romney is still holding a significant lead in NH. Santorum is barely on the gauge in NH or SC, Perry out may help Santorum, but it will takea lot more than the Perry spill over to pull him to a win in either state.

  2. myiq2xu says:

Looks like Rick “man on dog” Santorum might eke out a win.

  3. peggysue22 says:

Right now where I live there’s a 37-vote spread between Santorum and Romney [Santorum on top, metaphorically speaking]. More interesting than the race is the injured Eye of the Newt, who all but shouted out a vendetta against Romney. This could be very interesting. And very ugly.

  4. Newt’s whining about the Romney pac does nothing but convince me that Romney is the right GOP candidate. McCain didn’t have a pac to attack Obama. None of the GOP attacked Obama in 08 except Sarah Palin. No matter what else Palin says or does, she always gets props from me for being the only Republican who acted like she gave a sht about winning that stupid election. At least Romney has people behind him who are willing to fight and get their hands dirty. He’ll need ‘em!

    • imusthavepie says:

Newt crying about “negative ads” is hysterical. The only reason he stayed “positive” was he didn’t have the money or the organization. If the Republicans are smart, they’ll cut off the spigot of money to Gingrich completely.

    • ANonOMouse says:

Newt was/is the original unhinged “attack dog”. Damn that Karma!!!!!

    • peggysue22 says:

I heard Mary Matalin say that Eye of the Newt’s campaign was doomed the moment he said, ‘I will be the Republican nominee.’ Sort of like anointing yourself King. But the whine about negative advertising was too much. Come on, Newt–recall your personal history. But he’s definitely the injured mad dog now. What I heard last night was a vendetta in the making, payback for a humiliating collapse in support. And Romney is the object of the man’s rage.

As for Santorum? He should enjoy the moment because it will be short-lived. The establishment is backing Romney and they will do everything to make sure he wins. Even if it’s only by 8 votes.

  5. Pat Johnson says:

Newt can’t take the heat so he needs to get out of the kitchen. He has used the same tactics in the past to eviscerate the Dems and he now cries “foul” when exposed for the lying, cheating, snakehead that he is.

The very same Newt who led the charge for impeachment, who was doing the exact same thing himself, is calling another candidate a “liar” is boo hooing all over the place calling his charges unfair.

Iowa probably put the screws to Perry and Bachmann thus allowing Mittens to further his stride as the nominee but once he finds himself alone on the stage the reality is going to kick him in the butt.

Ron Paul will not exceed beyond Iowa and Rick Santorum has a definite “sell by” date with his calling for a ban on birth control thus leaving Mitt as the stand alone standard bearer. And the GOP despises him almost as much as they did McCain.

What a sorry slate of challengers when all is said and done.

    • ANonOMouse says:

“Ron Paul will not exceed beyond Iowa and Rick Santorum has a definite “sell by” date with his calling for a ban on birth control”

I’ve been searching YouTube for the video of Santorum’s latest pontification on Birth Control. In the process I found a video from 2006 where he comes right out and states his oppostion to birth control

Then there’s his more recent pontification on the subjects of Gay Marriage and Birth Control
“Earlier this week, the former Pennsylvania senator told Caffeinated Thoughts that he would be willing to “die” in the fight against marriage equality. “The battle we’re engaged in right now is same sex marriage, ultimately that is the very foundation of our country, the family, what the family structure is going to look like,” Santorum explained. “I’ll die on that hill.” The candidate later went on to explain that sex between a man and a woman is “special,” and even birth control is “not OK.”
      http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/david/santorum-ill-die-stop-same-sex-marriages

Rick Santorum cannot win the GE with the ant-gay, anti-birth control, anti-choice message, if the GOP/TP fields him as their GE candidate, BHO wins.

    • Pat Johnson says:

Here’s what the voters have in November to look forward to in casting their ballots:

A party that is all about protecting the rich on the backs of the poor and middle class; who is all about “freedom” but want to abolish the right to privacy; who have little use for government itself but is all about privatization; who wants to do away with any means of regulation; who is constantly poised for war; who fears gays and minorities; and whose “vision” for the future echos much of the past.

Versus the current administration who has shown no interest in actually “leading”; who has displayed an eagerness toward capitulation; and who can’t seem to work on behalf of the majority of this country who have shown through the polls that they deplore the efforts of the Right.

Like being asked if you wish to jump off the bridge or prefer to be pushed.

    • FembotsForObama says:

Well, at least Santorum voted for birth control, even though he doesn’t support it personally. aieeeya

    • tamerlane says:

Santorum would have made a great pope, c. 1193 a.d.

  6. ANonOMouse says:

Rick “frothy mix” Sanitarium courts minorities and the poor christian neo-con style.
    .

Notice that there is only 1 black person in the room where Sanitarium is speaking, and he is WORKING ( holding a mic). Of course Rick has no hope of getting the AA vote, but this tactic will not be a winner with most white people or other peoples of color. He’s such a jerk.

    • FembotsForObama says:

Anon — thanks for the big laugh!!! I was thinking of reposting the definition vis a vis Dan Savage, who I had the privilege to meet and get a big hug from, and then I read “FROTHY MIX SANTORUM.”

Poor frothy mix. The only thing he’s usable for is his ability to gather every right wing vote out there. I suspect he will deliver it to Mittens in the end though.

    • ANonOMouse says:

Fembot……If FROTHY wins the GOP nomination, I’m going to make a big investment in “Glitter” because the Glitter bomb business is going to pickup dramatically. :-)

STOP THE HATE, TASTE THE RAINBOW

    • ANonOMouse says:

As for Savage, no one has taken on the gay hating that comes from Santorum more often or as effectively as Dan. Dan is relentless and Frothy Mix hates Savage. or does he? :-) Me thinks frothy does protesteth way too much.

  7. peggysue22 says:

Someone wrote last night that instead of the Iowa Caucus it should be called the Iowa Caucasian. Which is why the vote is not representative of the country at large and why Santorum’s rise is a flash in the pan.

    Bachmann just officially withdrew.

  8. madamab says:

The only interesting thing about the Iowa caucuses was that they showed the three factions of the GOP that are struggling for dominance. The Libertarians voted for Paul, the religio-fascists voted for Sanctum Santorum, and the corporatists/moderates voted for Willard.

New Hampshire will show the other candidates that they don’t stand a chance. Even The Lizard will have to face reality after that. It’s all over but the whining. Uh, shouting. I meant shouting.

  9. run_dmc says:

Iowa is 3% black, but they vote in the democratic caucus . . . .

  10. FembotsForObama says:

Did you all see this from a former Iowan campaigner and caucus-ivist for Obama:
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dave-murphy/occupy-iowa-caucus-a-demo_b_1181722.html

    • SophieCT says:

How well did Obama do against Uncommitted?

    • tamerlane says:

hard to find any news, but it seems barry got 98.5% of the vote, though a smattering of uncommitted delegates were elected. Mostly, the Iowa dem caucus was an excuse to hold an obamofascist rally. All hail Dear Leader! A wasted opportunity for anti-obama liberals to strike a blow.

If I had a 100,000 dollars, I could organize a team and a movement that would take the motherfrakker down in time to nominate another candidate.

  11. ANonOMouse says:

This should make Frothy Mix shake in his boots

    From The Seattle Times:
    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politicsnorthwest/2017157564_gregoire_to_introduce_gay_marr.html
“Gov. Chris Gregoire on Wednesday said she’ll put forward legislation to legalize marriage for gay and lesbian couples. The proposal will be introduced during the legislative session that starts Monday. If it’s approved, Washington would become the seventh state to legalize gay marriage. “It’s time, it’s the right thing to do, and I will introduce a bill to do it,” Gregoire said in a statement. “Our gay and lesbian families face the same hurdles as heterosexual families — making ends meet, choosing what school to send their kids to, finding someone to grow old with, standing in front of friends and family and making a lifetime commitment,” Gregoire said. “For all couples, a state marriage license is very important. It gives them the right to enter into a marriage contract in which their legal interests, and those of their children if any, are protected by well-established civil law.”

  12. run_dmc says:

My conversation with my partner about Iowa –

Me: Wow, still can’t believe Rick “anal byproduct” Santorum came in basically tied with Romney in Iowa:
Him: If you asked those 30,000 Iowans if they believed in ghosts, they’d say yes. Does anyone care what they think?
Me: Yes, but they grow our food.
Him: And, they eat most of it too.

  13. sophie says:

So here we all are, the curtain has just risen on the worst show in town. Kinda’ makes me wish I’d taken up a peaceful hobby, like motorcycle racing..
No matter what happens, there are no great outcomes in store, getting rid of O would be the one positive note in all this sordid mess. Aside from that, I have been trying to formulate a game plan for the coming year, since watching the last gasps of our nation is too demoralizing.
My dh is painting a mural in the entrance hall, he hates ‘crafty’ stuff but I begged and it is gorgeous. I’m tweaking every room a bit, less clutter, more breathing room to promote calmness.
We are making a meditation space next to our lemon tree, which consists at present, of a garden bench and an interesting rock.. What the hell, even Buddha just sat under a tree.
We are supporting local growers, and mom and pop businesses, they may be the last truly productive Americans left..I am making new curtains out of organic linen….now if only I had my old Birkenstocks….
Seriously people, many of us are going to need to comfort ourselves and find things to laugh about every day, or we may become gripped by a national depression, cities will need to put prozac in the drinking water just to get their citizens out of bed. I am sick of being angry and frustrated, it is a bore, and unhealthy. I think I’ll drag out all my Marx bros movies while I’m at it.. Is anyone else trying to ‘drop out’ for a while .? If not, why not ?

    • Beata says:

Sophie, I am certainly feeling the need to “drop out” these days for my mental and physical well-being. Let’s face it. There is going to be no good outcome to this year’s presidential election. It’s “pick your poison” time as Pat Johnson would say. It’s depressing, no doubt, but why make yourself sick about it? If there are candidates in state and local elections you feel you can support, then certainly vote for them. But there are so many other things a person can do to make a difference in the world, like volunteering or supporting local businesses and growers as you are doing..

On a personal level, I have a huge stack of books I want to read – books I bought at charity book sales or was given by friends. I enjoy reading more than almost anything else, so that is what I am going to do. I am also going to spend time with my boyfriend, my cat, my family and my friends. I’m going to watch my alma mater’s basketball team, which is having a great season. I’m going to listen to music. Arguing about politics with people I don’t really know on blogs seems like a waste of precious time.

I love the Marx Brothers, by the way. I also recommend Eddie Cantor. His early films are gems. Really fun. And all the screwball comedies of the ’30′s and ’40′s are worth seeing again. They never get old.

      Peace.

    • Fionnchú says:

Sophie, I am finding this true, too. I am overworked and doing the job of two people, as are many of us in this “speedup” economy, and I can barely find time for JWS and the like a few minutes during my usual grind. So, I pop in, skim what comes in the e-mail and FB, and return to my duties in the working world. I suspect many–given the pressures of keeping up with information (or trivial) overload combined with the grueling obligations in a straitened situation–search for a space at home to read worthwhile books, listen to music, and create a welcoming, “natural” place for family, friends, and animal pals. A good friend told me, after her own romantic and existential difficulties lately, that this year seems to be uprooting a lot of us, causing us to seek shelter and find meaning.

  14. sophie says:

Great ideas, Beata, don’t forget ‘The Thin Man”…!

  15. sophie says:

Fio, I remember similar days to yours. Take your moments of peace wherever you can find them, even if it’s just staring out the window for half a minute. sometimes we get lucky and a bird flies by …

  16. Fionnchú says:

Sophie, with belated thanks, you especially if not exclusively might like this.
