I really cannot get my mind around this…
Admittedly, Obama campers are surprised that Mittens and his attendant superpacs are making the money race competitive. They’ve only themselves to blame for this. Anyone who’s been awake for the last 30 years knows the GOP almost always collects boatloads of cash. The SCOTUS decision to unleash the gazillionaires is not longer news. I remember the DNC needing a telethon to stay afloat? It wasn’t that long ago.
Even with all that in mind, it’s not like Obama is being lapped in fundraising. He’s doing just fine. So why this new, and shockingly tacky, appeal for the long green? Does Obama know the billionaires are going to drop cash firebombs on his campaign come the Fall? Perhaps. Is it just greed? Maybe. The most likely explanation for this obnoxious appeal is the insular nature of the Obama campaign. Some internal group of Barry’s groupthinkers decided this was a great idea!
If I was 10 and my parents said to me “Johnny, you won’t get the bike you wanted this year but don’t fret we sent money to Obama instead!“ I’d run away and join the circus.
This latest cash appeal is a fine example of ObamaCultThinking at its tackiest. Your birthday, wedding, graduation, anniversary is less important than Obama. Understand this: They truly and deeply believe this is a fine idea. That’s why no one in the room where appeals like this are decided on chimed in to say, “That’s probably not a good idea.” No one in that room comprehends how obnoxious this is. To them everyone on earth must feel the same way about Obama that they do. If they don’t, they’re stupid and unworthy.
Even the snide crack about a gravy bowl is appalling. Has your best friend finally found the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with? Well, whatever you choose to commemorate this life changing, joyous event – your gift – is nothing more than…a gravy bowl. Is your daughter valedictorian of her graduating class? Show her how proud you are…by giving to a politician. That new computer you were saving for to give her a leg up in college…it’s just a gravy bowl relative to the importance of Obama’s re-election.
The blind arrogance is mind numbing.

This repulses me. It’s the lowest stunt yet. The combination of desperation and arrogance hurts my brain unit.
and if you go over there:

the comments i saw while there are nasty. hahahahhaha. This one won’t be up much longer.
I’ll have to take your word for it- I blocked the Dem party and Obama sites from dropping cookies and beacons in my machine- so none of their stuff will load any longer lol
I’m sorry – can I paste the comments I posted about this in last posting (below). Because this whole stunt is just too indicative of how desperate and disgusting this group is. I honestly always think I can’t be surprised by anything they do and the only thing they are consistently succesful at – not mangement of the budget, economy, passing legislation or otherwise – is their outright gall in either fundraising or excusing the mistakes of dear leader.

I do love the “it’s a gift we can all appreciate – and goes a lot further than a gravy boat.” Um – beg to differ. A gravy boat will last longer than 4 more years and feeds hungry mouths rather than creates them.
Oh, and a gravy boat will spend a lot less time golfing and on vacation.
Ok – I’m now obsessed with the desperation and weirdness of this fundraising request. But, I realize that I just unconciously corrected the ad for them. It’s a gravy BOAT not a gravy BOWL, idiots. Who doesn’t know that?!! I know that and I’ve never been married. Are they that out of touch? Or . . . doo doo doo doo . .Alien? It’s sort of like the Coneheads trying to write a line about an earth wedding.
Ha!
Run is absolutely right, gravy b o a t, not bowl, and yes they are complete idiots. Vulgarians.
John, great post. Its really mind blowing how utterly selfish these people are.
They treat their supporters with disdain, and have zero respect for anyone’s intelligence other than their own. Which in a roundabout way, shows how dumb his campaign staff has become.
Don’t you know–it’s all part of the narrative. Only they’re stuck in 2008 (like Groundhog Day) where people just love this exceptional man with the good judgment and the oratory gift and so on. So not only does he rake in piles of money but the people (the regular little people) are grateful for the opportunity to give it. They regret that they have but one birthday or wedding to donate to Obama. Apparently, no one in the room was willing to say the narrative had played out.
By the way, they’re having a blast with this over at Crawdad Hole.
“No one in that room comprehends how obnoxious this is. To them everyone on earth must feel the same way about Obama that they do. If they don’t, they’re stupid and unworthy.”

John,
winner, winner, chicken dinner! Perfectly stated.
I still remember, painfully, the peripheral friend with whom we cut off contact when that person called us names because we knew better than to worship at the feet of an over-produced, inexperienced politician. How can people who live in Hollywood, who know what smoke and mirrors means because they live it (like I do) be fooled?
I have never and will never understand this.
Anita,
I too live and work in hollywood – and the richest here are more prone to Obama type B.S. not less. They made their dough on make believe. There is great emotional investment in someone like Obama being who they fantasize him to be. If he isn’t, then their wealth might be fraudulent too – and that wealth = their life. Players in this town routinely mistake their “work” from something earth shatteringly important. That Obama had not accomplished anything of note or value actually caused them to like him more at least subconsciously. I remember being told abruptly in 2008 that “his past did not matter” by an other wise smart person who had just ranted about Hillary’s “past”. That’s how thick the delusion was. These people NEVER overhear themselves.
Same dynamic with the alleged academic class. Obama the symbol always blots out Obama the reality. If it didn’t their life’s work would be called into question. Obama checked the right boxes proving what they’d been saying for 20 years was right. That the boxes were lies or not relevant to the task was not relevant to them.
I also think that Hollywood is just Democratic – and there is nothing wrong with that. They see the Dems as the party that is most akin to who they are -and they are correct in this if the only other alternative is the GOP. Whoever runs for the dems in 16 – hollywood will pony up. Finally, the GOP power brokers don’t give a shit about hollywood celebrities. Not is a real sense. The egos can’t abide that. If someone like Rubio started stroking egos here they’d pay attention.
Most Dems today remind me of people who would say they loved a production of HAMLET starring Andy Dick as Hamlet and Pamela Anderson as Ophelia.

Thank you for your kind comments and virtual hug yesterday –sorry I missed your comment!!
John — thanks for your reply — my comment will not nest, so….
Yes, I know you live here, just like me, and your theories on this make a lot of sense. I think there are others like us in this town who were not and are not fooled, but for obvious reasons, they are a lot quieter about it. The GOP also does itself a disservice when they constantly refer to Hollywood as craven/amoral. They ensure no headway for themselves. And that is largely a Party pander. But none of this will change, I think.

Tweet of the day.
I lifted this from a comment somewhere > Obama, the gift that keeps on taking
The Kool-aid blogs are studiously ignoring this story.
“La-la-la I can’t hear you!”
He gets a free pass every day from those suckers. The bar for this guy has been set so low, you can’t get UNDER it.
They forgot to mention tunerals. You know, “In ieu of flowers, send a donation to barack”.
This is bar far the most tacky thing I have ever seen in a campaign. These mental infants running his show are despicable. And shameless.
A funeral is a “shovel ready project”.
Sorry about the stuck L and Funeral typo.
But I LIKE ‘tuneral’. I think it’s what we should call services for the music stars that have been dropping like flies of late.
LOL.. I gotta stop eating at my laptop, Jay. Have my keys are stuck.
This “appeal to our better nature” smacks also of the progressive guilt trip. “You have so much you are so spoiled give to to a worthy cause” is a common theme in marketing for some charities. A friend was a chair for the PBS Pledge Week several years ago. This was the mentality of the employees according to her. They thought they deserved the money and were very comfortable with “guilting” it out of everyone. It smacks of emotional extortion. I think the “creative class” Obama campaign stole some of PBS fundraising marketing. I just hope they don’t copy PETA next.

First they were just silly, now they are absurd..
“If I was 10 and my parents said to me “Johnny, you won’t get the bike you wanted this year but don’t fret we sent money to Obama instead!“ I’d run away and join the circus”. Priceless!
“Son, I know you were planning on buying an electric guitar with your bar mitzvah money, but we just can’t let Mitt Romney drive a stake into the heart of the middle class!’
This is beyond desperate, it’s North Korean.
That is my new insult. Thanks! LOL
I bet it’s targeted at appreciative (sic) gays, though.
It seems to me that they’d probably net a lot more money by raffling off one of those Fast&Furious Barret .50 cal. rifles than by all of these stupid “gift registry” and “dinner with Barack” schemes.
