I don’t think Romney will chose a woman, but if does, it’s unlikely that he’d put another New Englander on the ballot with him. Haley or any of the other women on your list would probably be better demographically. He won’t choose Bachmann. She’s already been palinized.
EM, agree with your thesis… but remember Clinton and Gore were from neighbor states…. Also – i doubt he’ll pick any of these women but i tweeted a piece about Anne R discussing a women veep for the hubby… got me thinking a bit.
They’ve all been Palinized in one way or another. Jan Brewer and Bachmann are out because they’ve been Palinized so bad in the press, they’re toxic. Every other woman on the list is in their first term, thus Palinized by default. Remember “half-term Governor”?
That said, I wouldn’t exactly count them out. Romney’s played it safe so far, and he’s due for a big risk. Kelly Ayotte is attractive because of her conservative bona fides and her association with New Hampshire, a potentially critical state. Haley’s got the same problem Jindal does: the Sikh vote (I know they’re Christians) just ain’t that big, and those kinds of “POC” are not the kind to have a big magnetic influence on the big box minorities. And LA and SC are not in play. Neither is OK, so Fallin’s unlikely.
The only conceivable choice on this list is Susanna Martinez, who has plenty of law & order in her background, plenty of experience, and she’s Hispanic from a state Dems expect to win (but not by much). That could change if Martinez is selected. And having the the first Hispanic candidate for VP would absolutely influence Hispanics, as well as pretty much negate the noise on the first Mormon candidate. It would be bold, but if these are his choices, she’s the best one. But she’s also in her first term, and that will be weighted along with everything else.
“Palinized” I must keep up, had not heard that word before. Even though I thought Palin was a bit screwy, her family did not deserve the disgraceful treatment they got from the press. On top of what they did to Hillary, the msm certainly does not represent liberal idealogy in their treatment of women.
In what way do you think Palin was screwy? Just wondering – all the vetting she has gone thru (think of those 24000+ emails) has shown her to be pretty much what she claims to be – a religious conservative with a strong libertarian streak and a record of ethics reform.
I’ve been whispering Ayotte’s name as a possible for months. Balancing geography with the VP is not a factor anymore. Martinez is too caustic a personality to endure the scrutiny.
Votermom, Screwy was a cheap shot and a more than a bit lazy. I found Palin to be provincial and far from ready to be a ‘heartbeat away’ from the presidency. I am also a melanoma cancer survivor like McCain, between that and his age, he seemed unwise in his choice for VP. Silly me, we ended up with a Pres. who will never be able to take off his training wheels, is also highly provincial, and doesn’t even like us.
She was certainly unprepared for the machinations of the DC Swamp. (Although, to be fair, even Hillary was overwhelmed by the backstabbing).
I do think Palin today is a lot more worldly-wise, as well as more adept at global politics . I would have voted for her as Pres if she had run.
Martinez on immigration is sporty. Also she’s takes care of her special needs sister and insists she has no interest in being unable to do that as VEEP. Admirable. Plus I like the idea of a NM person as VP. …She is “first termer” though.
i say it has got to be rubio or martinez… just a gut feeling. i just hope if he does pick a woman, the dems won’t turn into aholes full of sexism again and instead argue the issues. if dem pols are really a bunch of sexists worse than repubs (because at least repubs are choosing women), then who wants to be a part of that ever? oh how i long for the good old clinton dems to reemerge.
A part of me wishes he would pick Condaleeza Rice- just to poke a stick in the hornets nest. She has the foreign policy creds Romney lacks as well. I am not a huge fan of hers, just looking at what he lacks and what could make the Obots heads explode in the messiest way possible.

I agree with Lola. Mitt is much more likely to pick Rubio, but it is possible that he would pick Martinez instead.
