I find the less I focus on news – the happier I am. However…
…sometimes people say the creepiest things. For example: “The President and the First Lady are kind of like the mom and the dad of the country, And when your dad says something, you listen. And when you don’t, it usually bites you in the ass later on. So I’m here to support the president.”
That would be Chris Rock speaking up there. Now one thing I discovered in the last 4 years is how creepy the Left can be. This creepiness seems to stem from one very odd and surprising character trait I never noticed before on the Left: People like Chris Rock never overhear themselves. If Chris Rock did overhear himself surely he would not have called the President and First Lady the mom and dad of the country who we ought to listen to. He doesn’t believe it – certainly not when a people named Bush or Reagan or Clinton- are playing national “mom and dad”. And, really, let’s be blunt, Chris Rock would not refer to any white President as dad and mom. Ever.
Creepy comments like Rock’s betray a culty authoritarianism – which, while not exclusive to the Left is more unnerving on the Left. Far Right authoritarianism actually emerges from a nightmarish ideology. There is no real ideology in the incipient authoritarianism of comments like Rock’s… expect an increasingly lazy and hazy personality cult liturgy. What Rock means is we ought to listen to the Dad I like because…well… I like him and he’s cool. There’s no principle in play. No ideology to support or refute. I assure you Rock won’t be calling President Rubio, Clinton, or Christie “Mom and Dad” in 4 years.
Right on, John! Your comments about Chris Rock’s statements reflect my thoughts exactly. Thank you once again! I used to be of the “liberal left” mostly before the 2008 presidential primaries when Hillary was so villified by them. I was shocked and disgusted about how caustic and acerbic they could be about Hillary. As you say, I really doubt Chris Rock would have called GWB and Laura Mom and Dad nor will he be calling the future POTUS that as well.

To put one rightwing false meme to rest, the nazis did not implement gun control. They were the minority partner in a coalition govt, who frightening the public with a spurious threat by terrorists, allowing them to suspend Germany’s broad constitutional civil liberties.

Chris Rock’s antics aren’t ‘news’, they are celebrity gossip. News is local, national, and international events,advances in science, etc., most of the other stuff is noise, and clearly not ‘news’..
Admittedly, it is getting harder to tell the difference.
Attaching too much importance to tabloid gossip would make anyone unhappy.
Proglodytes tend to have holier-than-thou attitudes coupled with a propensity to scold. They drive holier cars than thou, shop at Whole-ier Foods stores than thou, use holier PC vocabulary than thou. They watch LINCOLN, listen to CSNY’s “Southern Man” and feel oh-so-holier than those rednecks in Alabama. They tell me I’m racist for referring to the trees on my ranch as “digger pines”, but forget that while I’m burning self-cut, sustainable firewood, they’re sitting cozy with coal-fired, electric heat. They consider my 1-ton Silverado a gas guzzler, but don’t realize that, by idling for one hour while negotiating Bay Bridge traffic on a Saturday night, they’ve surpassed my weekly carbon output. They’re ‘ghetto’ vegetarians who eat fish and chicken — because those animals don’t die slow, painful deaths, of course — but get weirded out cuz I’ve got a chunk of goat in my freezer that my friend butchered.
So, it’s no surprise that proglodytes get off on a finger-pointing potus and a nagging harridan of a flotus.
And smug and self righteous are words that describe other Elites with whom they disagree, but never them or the First Scolds.
They’re really unbearable when they first become parents, you would think they Invented Parenthood, how ever did the human race survive without their pronouncements from on high ?
Most of them become human again, after about 14 years, as they watch all their theories wash right down the drain.
One of my daughters had a birthday party for ten year old boys, one mother stayed on site the whole time, in case her son ‘needed’ her.. We all felt sorry for the poor kid, who years later, got in trouble for torturing a neighbor’s cat, color me unsurprised.
